HKBU School of Business Celebrates 58th Commencement

13 Nov, 2017
The HKBU School of Business held its 58th Commencement sessions on 9 and 13 November 2017, where 620 undergraduates and 487 postgraduates received their degrees. In addition, the University conferred honorary doctoral degrees on five distinguished persons today (13 November) in an all-University celebration, at which outstanding entrepreneur Dr. William Fung Kwok-lun (馮國綸) was presented with the degree of Doctor of Business Administration, honoris causa.

Speaking on behalf of President Chin, Dean Snape urged the graduates to search for a direction and purpose that extends beyond their own lives in the A.I. era. “A.I. is all set to surpass human efficiency and productivity. People used to say that intelligence is what sets us apart. But when intelligence can be artificial, what makes us irreplaceable is not just our mind, it is out heart. So, wherever you go, always carry with you HKBU’s caring and compassionate culture. It is your empathy, your ethical and moral values that set you apart from the rest. Follow your heart, carve out your own path and make a difference in the new A.I. era.”

Concluding at the joyful finale to the four amazing undergraduate years, Yvonne Tso (BBA) spoke about her wonderful journey by seizing every opportunity to try new things. “One day I saw a recruitment email, and I thought: why not give it a go? That was how I became a Student Ambassador of the School of Business in my first year, through which I got the chance to share my university life on RTHK. As students we may have everything well-planned and foreseeable. But now as graduates, it’s time for us to leave our comfort zone and to uncover possibilities in life.”

Speaking as the representative of the postgraduate class of 2017, Yen Ngai (MSc in Strategic Human Resources Management) saluted to having a great cohort of classmates. “Our class gathered as a group of professionals from different industries and sectors. We have been encouraged to challenge our thought process through an action learning approach, which facilitated our becoming a strategic partner and even business leader.”
