HKBU School of Business organises inaugural business innovation competition

27 Nov, 2017
The HKBU School of Business organised the inaugural “Dean’s Cup Business Innovation Gymnasium” (BIG) competition, which aims at cultivating entrepreneurial spirit among students by providing a platform for them to turn innovative ideas into real businesses. The competition was concluded successfully on 25 November 2017.

Open to all HKBU students, a total of 18 teams of 85 students participated in the preliminary round of competition, and five finalist teams were selected to pitch and showcase their strengths in front of a panel of judges in the final round. Students were required to harness their creativity and apply an entrepreneurial mind-set to come up with solutions to the problems they encountered in running a business, in order to sharpen their innovative business ideas.

Among many brilliant ideas, a team of four business students, namely Fung Sum Yi (Year 3, BBA Marketing), Lai Wing Yan (Year 4, BBA Human Resources Management), Liu Mei Tong (Year 4, BBA Human Resources Management) and So Kin Fung (Year 4, BBA Information Systems and e-Business Management), scooped the Champion award with their “Crowd Learning Centre” project, aiming to provide an innovative language learning approach to facilitate social integration and cultural exchange, with new job opportunities created. The project has been launched in HKBU under a pilot scheme called “Language Buddies” since January 2017, and will continue next year with further advancement on operation.
