For the third year running, the School of Business and the School of Business Alumni Association organised “Financial Analyst Training workshop” on 29 October 2015, giving our students a glimpse of life in the financial industry.  Professionals from different streams of the industry shared their experience and gave students valuable job hunting tips.

Mr. Alex Hon, Director of Zhongtai International, officiated the evening with an overview of the different paths in the profession. Mr. Edwin Tam, a year 2014 graduate of MSc in Business Management programme, shared with the audience a “little known but very effective” job hunting approach, where he learned during the same seminar series at HKBU.  Other speakers included Ms. Ivy Ku from Cushman & Wakefield, Ms. Sally Yan from Towngas, and Miss Sara Zhao from Bloomberg, a previous commodity analyst at Thomson Reuters.

Taking this opportunity, students and alumni actively sought for career advice from speakers during the Q&A session.  Edwin encouraged the students to “act now to shape your own future”, urging students to start reading annual reports and do their own researches if they wish to become an analyst. Sara, on the other hand, pointed out the importance of a well-structured CV, which can increases students’ chance to stand out from the crowd.

After the sharing session, a subsequent training workshop on the multifunctional Bloomberg L.P system was held.  Bloomberg trainer Miss Sally Wang demonstrated the routines of financial professionals, obtaining real-time data and market information on the Bloomberg system. Thirty students completed both session one and two and was awarded certificate of completion after the event.
