The 5th Induction Ceremony of the HKBU Chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma Society

The Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) Chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma Society (BGS) inducted 71 new members at its 5th Induction Ceremony on April 25. At the ceremony, the School of Business conferred upon Mr. Bernard Wu, Chief Executive Officer of Qianhai SAR Private Equity Investment (Shenzhen) Limited, the Beta Gamma Sigma Honoree Award in honour of his significant accomplishments in both business and the community. 

In his welcoming remarks, Professor Allan Chan, Associate Vice-President of HKBU, Interim Dean of School of Business and President of BGS HKBU Chapter, congratulated all new student members for their outstanding achievements and shared the history and significance of establishing the BGS Chapter at HKBU. He also encouraged new members to widen their horizons and connections through the vast global network of BGS, and to advance their personal and professional lives by learning from the experiences of distinguished Chapter Honorees. 

Mr. Bernard Wu, the recipient of the Chapter Honoree award this year, has more than 20 years of experience in the fields of, among others, auditing, financial management, finance, investment management, mergers and acquisition. Previously, he was the Managing Director in Agricultural Bank of China International Investment Management Limited. 

Dedicated to the development of the business sector, Mr. Wu has served in several professional bodies. He is former Chairman of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, former President of the Taxation Institute of Hong Kong and current Honorary Treasurer of the Hong Kong Institute of Chartered Secretaries, Director of the Hong Kong Business Accountants Association and Vice Chairman of the Association of Hong Kong Professionals. 

Being an alumnus of the School of Business, Mr. Wu is major contributor to his alma mater, through taking on a leadership role in the HKBU School of Business Alumni Association in the recent years. He has organised an array of activities for students and alumni such as seminars, sharing sessions and corporate visits, as well as serving as a visiting lecturer. 

Mr. Wu’s personal philosophy is, “Learning is like rowing against the current, if one does not advance, one will retreat”. In the dialogue with student members, he shared the stories of his active involvements in student societies and extra-curricular activities while studying at HKBU, and encouraged students to grasp every learning opportunity. As the Chief Executive Officer of Qianhai SAR Private Equity Investment (Shenzhen) Limited, Mr. Wu also illuminated on the current business environment and latest developments in Qianhai, Mainland China, and shed light on an array of opportunities offered to professionals in Hong Kong. 

Beta Gamma Sigma Society, founded in the US in 1913, is an international honour society accredited by the AACSB International. Only distinguished institutions bestowed with AACSB accredited status are eligible to establish collegiate chapters. BGS now has 544 chapters at colleges and universities and has inducted over 750,000 members in more than 160 countries and territories.

Having received the AACSB accreditation in 2010, the School of business thereby established the HKBU Chapter, aiming at recognizing students and faculty for their excellent performance, and encouraging its members to uphold the core values of ‘Beta’ (honour), ‘Gamma’ (wisdom) and ‘Sigma’ (earnestness).
