HKBU School of Business co-organised the International Festival to celebrate cultural diversity on campus on 24-25 October 2017. Themed “Friendship Around the World”, the festival brought the essence of different cultures to the HKBU campus and enabled students to enjoy a mini world tour.

To cultivate a culture of intercultural interactions among students, the School of Business hosted the signature event “HKBU Fun Run” to team up local and non-local students for a campus run. Not only did the competing teams race with speed, they also had to harness their creativity to come up with a unique team name and put on eye-catching costumes that represent a country to compete for the Best Costume Award.

“I enjoy sharing my culture with the community, as well as learning about the cultures of my fellow students from different countries,” said Christopher Kolbeck, an exchange-in student from Germany, whose team scooped the Champion and Best Costume Award in the HKBU Fun Run. “Winning the Fun Run with my team also means we have a great team spirit between local and international students!”

During the festival, the School also held the “2017 Study Abroad Photo & Video Contest Exhibition” to showcase the variety of experiences from students who went on an overseas exchange last year. Game booths were set up for students to explore more about the fun facts of different countries and win great prizes, including a summer exchange programme scholarship exclusively for participating business students, and ultimately won by Olivia Ye (BBA Marketing, Year 2).

Organised for the thirteenth year, the 2017 International Festival is made possible with joint efforts from the International Office, Language Centre, Office of Student Affairs and School of Business.

In 2017, the School of Business admitted international students from 20 countries across four continents. As part of the ongoing efforts to instil a diverse student body, the School has established International Postgraduate Scholarships, which aim at bringing in students with all-round excellence from across the world.
