The International Carnival is back by popular demand! Taking place in tandem with Virtual Triathlon, the Carnival is a celebratory tribute to HKBU’s diversity and its globalising mission. A series of games, giveaways and craft workshops will be available along Li Promenade and in TriAngle.

G. Virtual Triathlon in Rome/ New York

The tailor-made Virtual Triathlon will bring participants to experience a virtual marathon (run/ walk/ hike) to tour Rome/ New York’s best attractions and famous landmarks, indoor cycling and rowing from 1-27 October 2021.

Come and immerse yourself in Rome/ New York via the unique Virtual Triathlon, an experience you will never forget!

Rules and Regulations
  1. All HKBU current students are eligible to join the event.
  2. Registration is based on a first-come, first-served basis.
  3. Each participant must complete the following 3 assigned sports for a required distance and within required periods: virtual marathon (either by running, walking or hiking), indoor cycling and rowing.
  4. The Virtual Triathlon will last for 27 days, from 12:00 AM on 1 October 2021 Friday to 11:59 PM on 27 October 2021 Wednesday (Hong Kong Time).

  6. An entry souvenir, a phone armband sleeve (pink/ blue/ black/ grey/ fluorescent yellow), will be awarded to participants on a first-come, first-served basis.
  7. Participants should fill in an online registration form. The Event Organiser has the right to decline any registration with false and inaccurate information.
  8. During registration, racers must select either Rome or New York for their route selection. This decision will be irreversible and race quotas will be non-transferable.
  9. By completing the registration form, participants are deemed to have accepted all terms and conditions of the event, including the official rules as stipulated and those that may be introduced later.
  10. The race details are as follows:
    A. Virtual Marathon (1 - 27 October 2021 (Hong Kong Time))

    1. Successful applicants of the Virtual Triathlon will receive an invitation link created for downloading a free Pacer App to record their progress. All racers are required to join a designated Virtual Triathlon Club based on their selected region before 29 September 2021 (Hong Kong Time).

    2. All racers’ account names on the Pacer App must begin with the assigned confirmation number, followed by the participant’s full English name.

    3. Upon joining the Virtual Triathlon Club of a designated region, participants will have access to a unique virtual marathon map with checkpoints.

    4. The virtual marathon only recognises step-cased activities such as running, walking and hiking. Participants can run, walk or hike anywhere and anytime from 1-27 October 2021, and the Pacer App will collect the data automatically. Racers can complete their race distance by several running/ walking/ hiking sessions. However, manual entry and treadmill workout will not be counted. The Event Organiser reserves the right to decline any inauthentic record.

    5. Once the data has been generated by the Pacer App, the Leaderboard in each Club will automatically be updated for all racers to keep track of.

    6. All activity records have to be captured by the Pacer App within the period from 12:00 AM on 1 October 2021 Friday to 11:59 PM on 27 October 2021 Wednesday (Hong Kong Time). Records collected outside the above mentioned period will not be counted.

    7. All racers must screenshot and upload their record which clearly shows their name and total distance completed to the designated Virtual Triathlon Club within 5 minutes after the completion of the 42km marathon.

    8. Racers must be responsible for the integrity of their activity records, which will be checked and verified regularly by the Event Organiser. Any dishonest behavior may result in disqualification.

    B. Indoor Cycling (25-27 October 2021 (Hong Kong Time))

    1. Participants must take part in a 10-minute nonstop indoor cycling challenge between 25 and 27 October 2021 from 12:00 NOON – 7:00 PM at the TriAngle, HKBU Shaw Campus.

    2. Participants must photograph and upload their indoor cycling records to the designated Virtual Triathlon Club within 15 minutes after completing the cycling challenge. Otherwise, the cycling record will not be counted.

    3. The cycling record must clearly show the cycling date, distance (in km), duration (in minutes), and average pace. Only one record will be accepted and verified by the Event Organiser. The Event Organiser reserves the right to decline any inauthentic or duplicated cycling records.

    4. A reservation link for this cycling challenge will be sent to participants in mid-October 2021, with which racers must reserve their preferred time slot during 25-27 October 2021 to complete this indoor cycling challenge. Reservation is on a first-come, first-served basis.

    5. A representative of the Event Organiser will provide on-site support from 25-27 October 2021.

    C. Indoor Rowing (25-27 October 2021 (Hong Kong Time))

    1. Participants must take part in a 10-minute nonstop indoor rowing challenge between 25 and 27 October 2021 from 12:00 NOON – 7:00 PM at the TriAngle, HKBU Shaw Campus.

    2. Participants must photograph and upload their records to the designated Virtual Triathlon Club within 15 minutes after completing the rowing challenge. Otherwise, the rowing record will not be counted.

    3. The rowing record must clearly show the rowing date, distance (in km), duration (in minutes), and average pace. The Event Organiser reserves the right to decline any inauthentic or duplicated rowing records.

    4. A reservation link for this rowing challenge will be sent to participants in mid-October 2021, with which racers must reserve their preferred time slot during 25-27 October 2021 to complete this indoor rowing challenge. Reservation is on a first-come, first-served basis.

    5. A representative of the Event Organiser will provide on-site support from 25-27 October 2021.

  11. By taking part in this event, participants have agreed to the use of videos and photos taken during the event by the Event Organiser for marketing purposes without prior notification.
  12. The final result will be announced on 28 October 2021 Thursday in the Virtual Triathlon Clubs. A notification email will be sent to all awardees. The prizes will be available for collection within 3 weeks after the result announcement.
  13. All Rules and Regulations are subject to interpretation by the Event Organiser whose decision shall be final.
  14. Participants need to be aware that their participation in the Virtual Triathlon may be physically demanding and may involve a certain amount of risk. In choosing to participate, all participants acknowledge that they accept all risks associated with taking part in the Virtual Triathlon and that such acceptance is a precondition for their participation.
  15. The Event Organiser will not be liable for any injuries, mishaps, sickness or loss/ damage to personal property that may occur during the event.
