The following guidelines are served as references for recruiters, and students who intend to join the job market in Hong Kong.
Immigration Arrangements for Non-local Students
Non-local graduate students are required to apply for a visa or an entry permit upon/after graduation if they would like to stay and work in Hong Kong. The requirements include admission to a full-time and locally-accredited local programme in the HKSAR, proof of funds, absence of a criminal record and other standard requirements for this type of visa. For details, consult with the Hong Kong Immigration Department.
Regulations for Hiring Non-local Students in Hong Kong
Restrictions in respect of internship and part-time employment for non-local students have been relaxed from the 2008/09 academic year onwards. Non-local students of full-time locally-accredited local or non-local programmes at undergraduate level or above whose study period is not less than one academic year (excluding exchange students) may take up the following internships according to the specific conditions:
- Study / Curriculum-related internships that are endorsed or arranged by Hong Kong Baptist University
- Summer internships
- Part-time on-campus employment (recommend not more than 17 hours per week according to Personnel Office, despite the maximum 20 hours per week set by Hong Kong Immigration Department)
You are recommended to study the details at Hong Kong Immigration Department prior to taking up any internship and/or part-time on-campus employment.
Eligible students will be notified individually by means of a “No Objection Letter” (NOL) upon approval of entry and extension of stay applications. The NOL specifies the type(s) and conditions of employment. See sample NOLs (1) (2). For more details, please click here.

Compliance with Statutory Minimum Wage Ordinance
All companies are subject to the Statutory Minimum Wage Ordinance. Any university students who are eligible to work in Hong Kong should comply with the Ordinance prior to accepting job offer. For more details, please click here.
