HKBU School of Business Co-Hosts ICEB 2024: Uniting Experts to Discuss “AI-Generated Content and Human-AI Collaboration”

The 24th International Conference on Electronic Business (ICEB) took place from 24th to 28th October 2024, at the Beijing Normal University-Hong Kong Baptist University United International College (BNU-HKBU UIC) in Zhuhai, China. This event was co-hosted by the HKBU School of Business and the Faculty of Business and Management at BNU-HKBU UIC, with additional support from the Faculty of Business and Economics at The University of Hong Kong (HKU).

With an impressive turnout of over 200 participants and approximately 150 submissions, the conference centred around the theme “AI-Generated Content and Human-AI Collaboration”. In her inspiring opening address, Prof. Christy CHEUNG, ICEB 2024 Conference Co-Chair, President of the Association for Information Systems (AIS) Hong Kong Chapter, and Chair Professor of the Department of Management, Marketing and Information Systems, warmly welcomed attendees. She emphasised the significance and timeliness of the theme, particularly in the context of the rapidly evolving landscape of artificial intelligence (AI). She also expressed her heartfelt gratitude to her fellow Co-Chairs, Prof. Eldon Y. LI and Prof. Patrick Y.K. CHAU, and Honourable Chair, Adolf K.Y. NG, acknowledging their unwavering support and contributions in bringing this prestigious event to fruition.

Prof. CHEUNG highlighted the complementary strengths of humans and AI, noting that while AI offers unparalleled computational power and data analysis capabilities, humans bring empathy, creativity, and ethical judgment to the table. She urged participants to view AI as a powerful ally rather than a threat, advocating for a collaborative approach that can lead to breakthroughs, enhance quality of life, foster economic growth, and create a more inclusive and equitable world.

The conference featured a wide range of topics, including AI applications, big data analytics, blockchain and fintech, digital marketing, e-business strategies, and smart technologies. Scholars and experts engaged in discussions on the theory and technology of AI, providing valuable insights and suggestions for the direction of future research and applications.

Keynote presentations were delivered by esteemed speakers, including Prof. Guoqing CHEN (Tsinghua University), Prof. Carol HSU (University of Sydney), Prof. Atreyi KANKANHALLI (National University of Singapore), and Ms. Jean Jing NIU (Huawei).
