The champion of the Dean’s Cup Business Innovation Gymnasium (BIG) 9.0, FIP Analyzer, participated in the annual Web Summit (technology conference) held from 10th – 15th November, 2024 in Lisbon, Portugal, which provided a platform for them to immerse in the vibrant start-up ecosystem. This trip, led by Dr. Marta DOWEJKO, Assistant Dean (Global Engagement) and Director of the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Centre (EIC), was part of the prize awarded for the team’s victory in the BIG competition.

The team, consisting of Imane MALKI (BBA – Finance & ISBI, Year 3), Yuk Yan LI (BBA – ISBI & EBI, 2024 Graduate), Chaoyan CHEN (Master of Computer Science, 2024 Graduate) and Chin Hei CHAN (Bachelor of Pharmacy of Chinese Medicine, 2024 Graduate), represented Hong Kong as the sole start-up showcased at the official InvestHK event on 12th November. Their innovative solution captivated the audience and received high praise from over 70 attendees. This app-based diagnostic algorithm promises early detection of Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP), a particularly difficult-to-diagnose disease, bridging the gap between worried cat owners and timely veterinary care.

Throughout the Summit, the team attended numerous talks and panels, networked with global innovators, and were inspired by the dedication of founders addressing global challenges.

Beyond the Summit, the team had the opportunity to meet with the veterinary faculty of the University of Lisbon, gaining valuable insights from world-class academics and professionals at the veterinary hospital. This exclusive meeting provided them with a deeper understanding of the latest advancements and challenges in veterinary medicine, helping them refine their mission to transform FIP detection and care.
