The Global Engagement Section of the HKBU School of Business, in collaboration with the Hive Club, hosted the first-ever football competition, titled “Football World Cup” on 12th April, 2024. This event, a sequel to the successful Fun Run 2024, assembled a dynamic mix of over 50 HKBU business students across 14 countries, showcasing the globally integrated community within our School.

Prof. Gerard PRENDERGAST, Associate Dean (Internationalisation) of the HKBU School of Business, delivered an inspiring closing remark. He touched upon the global allure of football, a sport that boasts a remarkable 250 million registered players and a passionate fan base that spans the globe. This universal appeal was the catalyst for the School to choose football as a medium to bridge various cultures. Shifting the lens to the core objective, Prof. PRENDERGAST stated, “Today, we have students from 14 different cultures represented. This event has brought you all together, and we hope that for the duration of your studies you will continue to integrate with other cultures, because you can learn a lot from people who are different from yourselves.”

While football was a component, the underlying spotlight was on nurturing global unity and cultural exchange. The Football World Cup acted as a bridge, connecting diverse cultures within our School community. The HKBU School of Business, through such initiatives, promotes a global perspective and cultivates an inclusive environment, setting students on a thriving academic journey.

The “Football World Cup” was not just about the game, but also about celebrating diversity. It featured attractive prizes, including participation and diversity awards, to applaud the participants and underscore the School’s commitment to cultural inclusivity.
