The Annual School Awards of the HKBU School of Business recognise colleagues for their outstanding teaching, research and service. Four faculty members were honoured in the Awards for 2023-2024.

 

Individual Teaching Award

Dr. Lucia FUNG , Senior Lecturer, Department of Management, Marketing and Information Systems

Dr. Lucia FUNG is a dedicated educator known for her innovative teaching methodologies. She utilizes storytelling, such as the 'Dilemma Games,' to tackle complex ethical issues in business ethics and engage students in interactive learning experiences. Dr. FUNG seamlessly integrates gamification into her teaching and enhancing student understanding. She has embraced e-learning technologies, developing platforms and a mobile app for transformative learning. Her cross-disciplinary approach explores the intersection of science fiction, human development, and business ethics, incorporating insights from psychology and behavioral science. She actively promotes internationalization and cultural diversity through initiatives like the BBA Student Ambassador Scheme. Dr. FUNG 's commitment to professional development is evident through her participation in workshops at Harvard Business School and pedagogical conferences, ensuring cutting-edge teaching practices. Overall, Dr. FUNG 's teaching philosophy fosters holistic, engaging, and forward-thinking educational experiences, preparing students for the challenges of the future.

 

Early Career Researcher Award

Dr. Sibo LIU , Assistant Professor, Department of Accountancy, Economics and Finance

Dr. Sibo LIU consistently makes scholarly contributions. His research output appears in top-tier journals, such as Accounting ReviewJournal of International EconomicsManagement Science, and Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, as well as leading international conferences, such as AFA and WFA annual meetings. His works advance several research fields, including shareholder litigation and global value chains, by introducing insights based on innovative empirical strategies, newly discovered datasets, and novel measurements. He has obtained government-funded grants and collaborated on external grants in areas related to firm dynamics and human capital. Additionally, he has established collaborations with industry leaders to address issues in Fintech.

 

Scholarly Work Award

Dr. Song CHANG , Head & Associate Professor, Department of Management, Marketing and Information Systems

Dr. CHANG has a distinguished reputation in management due to his exceptional contributions and impact on the academic community. His work has been published in leading management journals, such as Journal of Applied Psychology, Strategic Management Journal, Journal of International Business Studies, Personnel Psychology, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, Journal of Management, and Journal of Organizational Behavior, and others. Over the past three years, he has produced seven peer-reviewed articles, including two in A-graded journals, demonstrating his commitment to advancing knowledge. Dr. CHANG's research has received recognition, including the 3rd place Michael Poole Best Paper Award for his 2022 publication in the International Journal of Human Resource Management (IJHRM). His dedication and influential contributions establish him as a leading authority in management studies.

 

Service Award

Dr. Byron SONG , Head & Associate Professor, Department of Accountancy, Economics and Finance

Dr. SONG is currently the Head of the Department of Accountancy, Economics and Finance. Previously, he served as the Head of the Department of Accountancy and Law. During his tenure, Dr. SONG played a pivotal role in implementing structural changes within the School, including departmental restructuring and the migration of self-financed undergraduate programmes. He made great efforts to recruit excellent scholars from around the world and actively engaged with alumni, professional bodies, and business companies to promote the School and foster collaboration. Dr. SONG has served on various university-level committees, such as the Finance Committee, Honorary Degrees Committee, and Staff Affairs Committee. Outside HKBU, Dr. SONG made valuable service contributions to the academic community. He is the Co-editor of Accounting Forum and the Associate Editor of the Asia-Pacific Journal of Accounting and Economics. He has also served as an ad hoc reviewer for top-tier accounting and business journals.
