HKBU has recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with CFA Institute to jointly promote the development of sustainable finance education through the first-of-its-kind global academic-industry collaboration. Starting January 2026, the School of Business at HKBU will integrate the curriculum of the Sustainable Investing Certificate offered by CFA Institute directly into its taught postgraduate studies. On 28 November 2025, CFA Institute delegates visited the university campus to deliver an info session.
Dr Chan Kar-lun, Programme Director of MSc in Applied Economics, hosted the info session as the representative of the participating master’s programmes (Master of Accountancy, MSc in Applied Economics, MSc in Corporate Governance and Compliance, and MSc in Data Analytics and Business Economics) to introduce the new elective module. Through a signature game show and a detailed introduction of the certificate by CFA Institute, and the enrollment details of the HKBU elective module, students learnt about the essence of sustainability and the role of sustainable investing and finance, and how this globally-recognised certificate enhances professional competencies, with up to a full subsidy available from the HKSAR Government.
Official enrollment to the elective module, Principles and Applications of Sustainable Finance and Investment (ECON 7130), will commence in semester 2 (from mid-January to April 2026). Please stay tuned for more and specific details through the programme office upon exam registration for the certificate.
