Studying abroad is not easy, what about building a career at a different root? On 16 and 18 September 2025, the CareerLink@BUS managed by the Career and Alumni Engagement Section (CAES) has conducted an alumni sharing series on building careers in Hong Kong for Chinese Mainland and non-local students.

Alumni from both undergraduate and taught postgraduate programmes shared valuable insights on navigating today’s globalised work environment. A key theme was the power of language proficiency. They noted that this extends beyond mastering a new language, as one's native tongue can also be a significant professional advantage in specific industries.

Cultural adaptation emerged as a key discussion point, with alumni stressing the significance of understanding and embracing different cultures for success in international roles.

Regarding career planning, alumni advised students to set clear goals and actively pursue internships and networking opportunities. For international students, building and maintaining professional relationships was deemed essential, with tips on attending industry events and leveraging social media for connections.

The sessions featured interactive discussions in small groups, providing participants with personalised advice from alumni. In a relaxed and cozy atmosphere, attendees fostered connections and nurtured lasting friendships and professional networks.
