Prof. Christy CHEUNG receives the prestigious Asia Women Tech Leaders Award (AWTLA2025) in Singapore. Her leadership in promoting equitable access to technology for underserved communities is making a real difference.

The HKBU School of Business proudly announces that Prof. Christy CHEUNG, Chair Professor in Information Systems and Digital Innovation Management of the Department of Management, Marketing and Information Systems, has been recognised as one of Asia's top 50 women technology leaders at the prestigious Asia Women Tech Leaders Award (AWTLA) 2025. The award ceremony, held in Singapore on 29th April, 2025, celebrated the achievements of exceptional women driving innovation and leadership in the tech industry.

Prof. CHEUNG's selection as an AWTLA 2025 winner highlights her significant contributions to information systems research, particularly in promoting inclusive and responsible technology use. Her passion for equity is evident in her transformative research on mobile health interventions. In her recent work, Prof. CHEUNG examined maternal mHealth app use among underprivileged expectant mothers, particularly women of colour, revealing systemic inequalities that limit the effectiveness of digital health tools for these vulnerable populations. This vital research is shaping the design and regulation of mHealth technologies and fostering a more inclusive and equitable digital health future, thereby advancing the broader goals of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in healthcare and technology.

Prof. CHEUNG's leadership extends beyond research. As a senior faculty member and Research Office Director, she has fostered greater gender diversity within her department. As Programme Chair of ICIS 2024, she championed the inclusion of women in high-visibility academic roles. Currently, she is also tackling critical issues such as gender bias in AI-driven recruitment systems, extending her advocacy beyond the realm of maternal health. Her inclusion among the world’s top 2% most-cited scientists (Stanford University, 2024) further underscores her impact.

Prof. CHEUNG's AWTLA recognition solidifies HKBU School of Business’s commitment to nurturing future leaders and promoting gender diversity in the rapidly evolving tech landscape. The AWTLA celebrates the increasing influence of women in technology, highlighting their vital role in shaping innovation and its practical application. This award honours exceptional individuals like Prof. CHEUNG, whose expertise in emerging technologies and leadership in complex tech projects serve as an inspiration.
