Entrepreneurship at HKBU School of Business extends beyond the classroom, shaping ventures that make a real impact. Alumnus Leo Lau (BBA in Entrepreneurship and Business Innovation, Class of 2025) is one such example. He transformed lessons learned at the School into Audacity, a Hong Kong–based performance apparel brand built on sustainability.

A Collaboration Rooted in Sustainability

Audacity’s commitment to eco-conscious design came full circle through a meaningful collaboration with the School. Leo and his team produced the official School of Business polo shirt, crafted with Sorona®, a fiber partially made from renewable plant starch that reduces reliance on petroleum-based materials. The shirt blends everyday comfort with sustainable material choices, reflecting both the School’s values and Leo’s entrepreneurial vision.

For Leo, this project was more than a milestone — it was personal. “Bringing a venture shaped during my time at HKBU back to the School is deeply rewarding,” he shared. The polo shirt stands as a tangible symbol of how classroom learning can evolve into ventures that give back to the community.

From Learning to Doing

Leo credits his entrepreneurship courses, guest lectures, and faculty mentorship at the School for equipping him with the mindset and tools to start his journey. Yet he stresses that true learning came from building something real. His decision to launch Audacity was driven by rising demand for ESG-focused products and the desire to create apparel suited to Hong Kong’s climate.

A Message to Future Entrepreneurs

Leo’s advice to current students is simple yet powerful: “A rough start is the best start. Ideas are worthless without execution. Don’t wait for perfect timing — ship, learn, and improve.”
