Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) and Food Angel, one of Hong Kong’s pioneering organisations in food rescue and food assistance, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 21 October 2026 to establish a strategic partnership aimed at advancing social and environmental impact evaluation and elevating sustainability education in Hong Kong. The collaboration merges academic expertise with real-world community practice to deliver evidence-based insights for food rescue operations while nurturing the next generation of future-ready business leaders.

The MoU was signed by Mr Ryan Man, Acting Dean of the School of Business at HKBU, and Ms Astor Wong, Head of Partnership and Resources Development at Food Angel, in the team presence of Dr Aries Wong, Associate Director (Knowledge Transfer), Centre for Sustainable Development Studies at HKBU; alongside Ms Katrina Cheng, Manager of Education, and Ms Sze Wing Lee, Assistant Manager of Education, at Food Angel.

Under the agreement, HKBU School of Business will provide advisory support on evaluating, analysing, and enhancing the environmental and social impacts arising from Food Angel’s operations. By applying analytical frameworks, robust methodologies, and academic research approaches, the School will assist Food Angel in generating evidence-based, quantitative insights to optimise its food assistance and waste reduction initiatives, creating transparent and measurable societal impact.

In parallel, the partnership will advance HKBU’s commitment to whole-person business education through experiential learning. HKBU and Food Angel will jointly design and implement hands-on learning activities that integrate core sustainability concepts with real-world community applications. These initiatives aim to deepen students’ understanding of environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and active community engagement.

Mr Ryan Man stated: “As a business school dedicated to whole-person business education, this collaboration with Food Angel is a testament to our commitment to cultivating ethical and responsible future leaders. This partnership bridges rigorous academic research with tangible community action to deliver measurable societal impact. By engaging our students directly in real-world operational challenges, we empower them to translate sustainability concepts into meaningful practice while generating actionable insights that support Food Angel’s vital mission.”

Ms Astor Wong said: “Food Angel has always operated under the mission of 'Waste Not, Hunger Not, With Love.' Partnering with HKBU School of Business allows us to measure, evaluate, and enhance our environmental and social outcomes through evidence-based research and robust analytics. Furthermore, welcoming HKBU students into our operations provides them with authentic experiential learning opportunities, inspiring young talents to drive sustainable change in our society.”

Through this collaborative framework, HKBU School of Business and Food Angel endeavour to create a lasting dual impact by strengthening community food rescue operations through data-backed evaluation while enriching business education through practical, purpose-driven learning experiences.

About Food Angel

Food Angel is a food rescue and food assistance programme launched in 2011 with the mission of “WASTE NOT, HUNGER NOT, WITH LOVE”. The programme rescues edible surplus food from the local food industry. Following strict safety protocols, the rescued food items will then be prepared as nutritious hot meals and food packs in our “Food Angel Jockey Club Food Production Centre” and be redistributed to serve the underprivileged communities in Hong Kong.
