On 8 September 2026, HKBU School of Business hosted the Joint Taught Postgraduate (TPg) Orientation, welcoming over 310 attendees to the School community.

Under the theme "Act with Faith, Create the Future", the orientation brought together students from 15 TPg programmes, embodying the Scool’s vision of "One Business School, One Family".

A Gathering of Future Leaders

The programme commenced with a welcome address by Professor Zhang Han, Dean and Chair Professor of the School of Business, who spoke about the transformative power of education and HKBU's enduring legacy. He reminded students that 2026 marked not just the start of a new academic year, but also the celebration of a monumental milestone—the 70th Anniversary of Hong Kong Baptist University. "Seven decades of 'Faith and Perseverance'. Seven decades of transforming young minds into global leaders. And you—you are now part of this living legacy," he noted.

Following the Dean, Professor Monique Wan, Associate Dean (Taught Postgraduate Studies), delivered an opening remark. She congratulated students on their bold decision to invest in their future and guided them with three core principles for their journey: Connect, Collaborate, and Grow.

Empowering Students for Success

The orientation was designed to equip students with the tools and resources for a transformative experience. Dr Liu Jing, Assistant Dean (Outreach and Engagement),  highlighted global opportunities and career support available through the School’s Mainland and Global Engagement Section (MGES) and the Career and Alumni Engagement Section (CAES).

Students learned about exciting prospects, including global learning opportunities, industry focused study tours, Double Degree pathways, and various financial support schemes. For career development, CAES offers tailored job search preparation, personal branding workshops, and skills development courses to accelerate career mobility.

The session also featured an alumus sharing segment by Mr Rico Birkmann (Master of Science in Applied Accounting and Finance, 2021). A German professional based in Hong Kong, Rico built a successful corporate career across various international companies, focusing on regional business development and serving as Head of APAC for a cross-border digital marketing agency. More recently, Rico has transitioned to entrepreneurship, pursuing his own business ventures alongside teaching the German language. His firsthand perspectives illustrated how the HKBU experience accelerated his career, reinforcing the power of the School’s robust alumni network.

Building Connections Beyond the Classroom

True to the spirit of the day, the formal session gave way to a vibrant networking and mingling reception. Students from 12 diverse programmes—ranging from Accountancy to AI for Business—connected over light refreshments, forging the first of many meaningful relationships that will define their postgraduate journey.
