As education adapts to the technological landscape, the recognition of a distinguished team of transdisciplinary scholars highlights the critical need for ethical frameworks in academic curricula. The awarded team in the 2025/26 academic year, Dr Dimple Thadani (Department of Management, Marketing and Information Systems), Professor Lola Xie (Department of Communication Studies), Professor Peter Nelson (Academy of Visual Arts) and Dr Jacky Chan (Department of Computer Science), have demonstrated exceptional innovation in their course “GTCU/GTSU/GTSC2805 Critical AI Literacies: Embracing AI for Social Good.”
The course aims to equip students with the integrated literacies necessary to navigate the complexities of the AI era while focusing on ethical considerations. The Selection Panel praised the team’s pedagogical framework—understand, apply, and create—stating, “This thoughtful design ensures that all teaching and learning activities and assessments directly support the core goal. It fosters not just technical skills, but also critical judgment and social responsibility.”
The award serves as inspiration for the academic community, encouraging educators to prioritise ethics in teaching practices and foster a sense of responsibility among students. Through their collaborative efforts, the team sets a benchmark for future courses, demonstrating how interdisciplinary education can effectively address contemporary challenges. This approach not only enhances students' technical expertise but also prepares them to be advocates for positive societal change, contributing significantly to a more conscientious and ethical approach to learning in the digital age.
