A group of 40 BBA students participated in the Business Frontier: Shanghai Finance Study Tour from 4 to 8 January 2026. Sponsored by the 2025-26 HYAB Funding Scheme for Youth Exchange in the Mainland, the tour provided a unique opportunity to experience Shanghai as the financial heart of the Chinese Mainland and to deepen students’ understanding of the One Country, Two Systems Policy and the 14th Five-Year Plan.

Participants gained exclusive access to leading financial institutions and technology innovators, academic institutions and other immersive corporate visits. Highlights included a seminar on national advancements in FinTech at the Shanghai division of Guolian Minsheng Group, an exclusive tour of the Shanghai Futures Exchange (SHFE) trading hall with a seminar on the development of Chinese Mainland’s futures market, SHFE’s opening-up progress and green finance, and academic engagement at Tongji University’s School of Economics and Management. They also experienced smart autonomous driving with a robotaxi at Baidu Apollo Park and visited the Shanghai Stock Exchange for guided tours to understand the region’s financial history and market characteristics, and the Hong Kong SAR Economics and Trade Office in Shanghai (SHETO) for support and opportunities available to Hong Kong citizens in the Chinese Mainland. Special thanks to Professor Bernard Wu, a member of the Alumni Committee of the HKBU Foundation and Honorary Court Member, for facilitating the corporate visit to Guolian Minsheng Group.

Beyond the educational activities, students enjoyed Shanghai’s rich culture and scenery, ascending the Oriental Pearl Tower for a panoramic view of the city’s iconic skyline, exploring the Shanghai City History Development Museum, and experiencing the vibrancy of the Bund and Huangpu River on a scenic boat trip.

This enriching study tour broadened the BBA students' perspectives on the Chinese mainland's financial sector and technological innovation, while also strengthening their sense of national identity and connection.
