HKBU School of Business celebrates 65th Anniversary27 Oct, 2021
Prof. Alex Wai, President of Hong Kong Baptist University was the Guest-of-honour of the ceremony. He highlighted the contribution of the School to the development of HKBU. “Together, the University and the School have achieved tremendous success, and share a common aim to deliver academic excellence in a caring, creative and global culture. I am very much inspired by the supportive alumni at the University’s and School’s initiatives, and your service in communities across sectors worldwide.”
In his welcome address, Prof. Snape briefly recounted the School’s development since its inception, highlighting that the achievements of the School today are made possible by the collective contributions of alumni, students and faculty members over the years. “While the School’s academic development has been inspiring, our core values have been a constant, informed our development throughout the years, and embracing whole-person education, social responsibility, and a people-centred caring culture”, added Prof. Snape. “Looking forward, the journey continues, and the School will collaborate closely with the wider community in developing our educational and knowledge-creation contributions.”
Mr. Dickson Shang and Mr. Alfred Tang, Honorary University Fellows and respected business leaders, spoke as alumni representatives, sharing their joy in witnessing another milestone in the development of their alma mater.
Mr. Shang recalled his happy memories at HKBC and how the knowledge and experience he gained have benefited his career development over the past 55 years. Mr. Tang, as an accounting graduate 45 years ago, recognised faculty members’ efforts to equip them to thrive in the accounting sector. “From my experience, I believe the University is a place for creation, discovery and sharing of knowledge.” Mr. Tang concluded.
Officiating the ceremony with the four speakers were Mr. Nga Chung Wong, Honorary University Fellow and HKBU alumnus; Prof. Rick Wong, Interim Provost; Prof. Yike Guo, Vice-President (Research and Development); Dr. Albert Chau, Vice-President (Teaching and Learning); Ms. Christine Chow, Vice-President (Administration) and Secretary; and Associate Deans Prof. Xu Huang, Prof. Gerard Prendergast, and Dr. Peter Lau.
