img Two postgraduate business students teamed up and were crowned Champion at the Hong Kong Techathon 2021. The team worked with professionals in several industries to come up with ideas and prototypes, and competed against 20+ teams from other universities in Hong Kong for seven consecutive days, pitching for seed funding and incubation support. The final presentation cum award ceremony was conducted on 9 January 2021.

The student team, namely Jovan Trajceski and Irina Flamme from the MSc in Data Analytics and Business Economics (MScDABE) programme, won the championship in the AI & FinTech category of the competition. The winning idea – RoboHire – provides automated recruitment notes to recruiters and hiring companies by utilising the power of AI. Live or recorded interviews are uploaded into the RoboHire platform, where voice data is converted to text, and an automated candidate profile is generated shortly thereafter. The profile includes candidates’ sentiment, tone, and profile analysis and ranks candidates for the job position. RoboHire introduces automation, simplification, and data-driven decision making into the recruitment cycle, saving recruiters time so they can focus more on engaging and growing their client pipeline.

“Not only does the MScDABE programme provide us with practical knowledge,” said Jovan, “it also offers plenty of opportunities for us to network with professionals from all walks of life, which has trained us well to meet and work with the collaborators during this competition. The competition is also very helpful to test our knowledge and refine our ideas.”

First- and second runners up of the category went to teams from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

Co-organised by the Hong Kong Science and Technology Park (HKSTP) and seven local universities including Hong Kong Baptist University, the Hong Kong Techathon 2021 is the first virtual techathon in Hong Kong. It challenged participants to bring in a new e business solution related to one of the four themes – New Generation Technology, AI & FinTech, Smart City and Social & Health Tech. Winning teams will get a chance to secure seed-funding of up to HK$1.9m to realise their idea.
