BBA Students Push Research Boundaries at BizSpark Conference

03 Jun, 2024
img In an inspiring display of academic dedication and innovative thinking, the BBA programme of the HKBU School of Business hosted the annual BizSpark Research Conference. Held on 25th May, 2024, this year's event yet again showcased the innovative spirit of the School's talented undergraduate students.

The level of participation from BBA students of various concentrations has been remarkable this year. A staggering 45 students submitted 30 cutting-edge projects across two categories - Academic Research Papers and Consultancy-based Projects.

In the opening remarks, Mr. Ryan MAN, Associate Dean (Undergraduate Studies) of the HKBU School of Business expressed, “The BizSpark Conference presents the research capabilities of our undergraduate business students and illuminates the path for our students to tackle business and social challenges through innovative and practical business research solutions."

The eight finalists presented their research findings to a distinguished panel of judges. Among them were Ms. Bonnie CHOW, Founder & Managing Director of PlanB; Dr. Ludwig CHANG (MMIS), Associate Director of BBA (Hons); Dr. Lucia FUNG (MMIS), Associate Director of BBA (Hons) and Dr. Aries WONG (AEF), Associate Director of CSDS.

The gold award-winning project in the Academic Research Papers Category, titled “Cause-Related Marketing in the "Buy One Give One" Strategy: The Mediating Role of Consumer-Cause Identification” delved into the mediating effect of consumer-cause identification on the relationship between different cause fits and purchase intention. Meanwhile, the gold award-winning project in the Consultancy-based Projects Category, named “The Effectiveness of the Night Market in Boosting Hong Kong's Economy”, explored the night market’s role in revitalising the local economy and identified market strengths and challenges.

The Conference was not just a showcase; it was also a place where the BBA students’ purpose-driven research capabilities came alive. These young minds were not mere participants; they were pushing boundaries, challenging conventions, and redefining what’s possible. Ultimately, their research potential aims to make a positive impact on society. Beyond celebrating innovation, the Conference ignites a fire—a spark that will continue to burn long after the applause fades.
