Business student shines in international blockchain competition

img Jeremiah Lee Gong Kuen (BBA Applied Economics, Year 2) and teammate took home the third place award in the International Blockchain Olympiad 2019 held on 5th-7th July 2019. The team competed against 33 finalist teams from ten countries and regions, including Brazil, Canada, China, Estonia and the USA etc., and made it to the top three as the only one from China and Hong Kong.

The event, co-hosted by the Hong Kong Science and Technology Park (HKSTP), College of Business of City University of Hong Kong and Hong Kong Blockchain Society, was a multidisciplinary design competition that invited students from around the globe to apply blockchain and cryptography in solving real-world challenges. Jeremiah’s team, named “Aero-Knowledge Proof”, proposed to apply blockchain and cryptographic techniques to improve the safety of the aviation industry by providing a real-time proof-of-compliance tool for aircraft maintenance records. The team was also honoured with the Top IoT Chain Award and People’s Choice Runner-Up.

First place in the competition was a team from University of Michigan, USA; second place was from University of San Carlos, Philippines, and the tied third place was from University of Waterloo, Canada.
