08 Sep, 2016
Dr. Wei-ping Wu, Associate Professor of the Department of Marketing, was awarded the Best Full Paper Award at the annual conference of the British Academy of Management (“BAM”). This international conference, themed on “Thriving in Turbulent Times”, was hosted by Newcastle University of the U.K. from 6 to 8 September 2016, attracting world-class researchers from over 50 countries and 800 delegates to participate in thoughtful discussion and reflection.
Dr. Wu’s paper was classified under one of the 26 tracks of research papers, discussing inter-organisational collaboration: partnerships, alliances and networks. Co-authored with Professor Marie McHugh, Dean of the Ulster University Business School of the U.K., Professor Paul Humphreys, Director of Business and Management Research Institute of the Ulster University Business School of the U.K., and Dr. Frank Weingarten, Associate Professor, Department of Operations, Innovation and Data Sciences in ESADE Business School of Spain, the paper entitled “Information sharing and firm performance: the mediating roles of marketing and managerial capabilities” contributes to the existing knowledge by confirming that there is a positive information-sharing-performance correlation to managerial and marketing capabilities.
Based on a sample of 156 Chinese manufacturing firms, the managerial implications of the paper are that manufacturers should engage in reliable information sharing with their key suppliers, in order to achieve operational efficiency in reaching the target customers. Internally, it is advisable for senior managers to develop their subordinates by encouraging teamwork to solve conflicts.
When receiving the award, Dr. Wu expressed his gratitude and said “I am delighted that our research efforts have been recognised by fellow researchers at the British Academy of Management. This award is not only a recognition of our research strength, more importantly, it reflects the importance of international collaborations in the academic circle. The award has also enhanced the image of Hong Kong Baptist University internationally, in particular, within the management research community. This would not be possible without the support provided by HKBU and the School of Business.”
The British Academy of Management is a leading authority in the academic field of management in the United Kingdom, supporting and representing the community of scholars to engage with their international peers. The BAM Annual Conference is one of the most prestigious international events for business and management scholars. It is the 30th time that the conference has been held.
