img Jolly Chan Wing Yan (MSc Finance (Fintech & financial analytics, 2022)) has recently been honoured with the Westin Scholar Award by the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP). With the growing need for well-qualified privacy and data protection professionals, the annual Westin Scholar Awards were created to support students who are identified as future leaders in the field of privacy and data protection.

As a top student of the class, Jolly scored the highest overall amongst her peers for the course FIN7900, which deals with data privacy and cybersecurity. The Westin Scholar Award will reward her with a cash prize, two years’ membership of IAPP, three complimentary examinations for IAPP certifications, unlimited access to online training for the selected IAPP certification examinations and a copy of the book “Privacy and Freedom” by Dr. Alan Westin.

“I owe my success to the rich learning environment at HKBU and all my professors who were there to guide me on my path,” shared Jolly, “I will continue studying hard to become a well-qualified privacy and data protection professional.”

The Westin Scholar Awards pay homage to the late Dr. Alan Westin, a foundational voice in the field of privacy and data protection. A total of 38 Westin Scholars from around the world received the award in 2021-22, based on their potential to contribute to the privacy and data protection field.
