A team of five students from the Master of Science in Applied Accounting and Finance (MScAAF) programme was honoured with the Rising Star Award at the BOCHK Challenge 2023. The final pitching and award ceremony was concluded on 15 July 2023.

 

Among the ten finalists in the highly competitive challenge,the HKBU team - 5Wonders, consisting of Junkang Liu, Shihua Xiao, Yanwen Li, Yitong Liu, and Haoran Yin,  went on to compete for eight awards at the final pitching event. The shortlisted teams of college students and start-ups had the opportunities to attend workshops and mentoring sessions hosted by professionals from Bank of China (Hong Kong) (BOCHK) and co-organisers, including Huawei Cloud, Microsoft and Hong Kong Production Council.

 

The 5Wonders team impressed the panel of judges with the vision and mission of their project, “Trust Credit”, on assisting the SME microfinance sector, and won the Rising Star title and HK$30,000 cash prize. “It's great to see that the project integrates different kinds of FinTech and has the potential to make innovative and positive impacts on the SME microfinance sector.” Mr. Aero Wong, Deputy General Manager, Commercial Banking Department, BOCHK, commended.

 

The team believed that inclusive financing would be the right way to move forward and keep refining the idea. They are also thankful for the guidance of Ms. Queenie Lee, Lecturer of the Department of Accountancy, Economics and Finance of the HKBU School of Business, throughout the competition.

 

Themed “Pioneering in Technology, Ignite the Future” this year, the BOCHK Challenge 2023, organised by BOCHK, aims to explore and unlock the potentials and talents of youngsters to better adapt with the rapid advancement of technology and ever-changing market landscape. The theme this year covered five important technological aspects – Fintech, Insurtech, Regtech, Investech, and Greentech. Participants were tasked to challenge the pain points and provide innovative solutions for the financial industry.
