Dr. Caleb Chen and Prof. Allan Chan of Chinese Businesses Case Centre (CBCC) of HKBU School of Business won the first runner-up award in the 23rd CEEMAN Case Writing Competition 2017, an international competition aiming to encourage and promote the development of high-quality teaching case material organised by CEEMAN and Emerald Publishing. The Award Ceremony and the 25th CEEMAN Annual Conference was held in Hangzhou, China on 20-22 September 2017.

Entitled “From Asia to Africa: The International Expansion of Hon Chuan Enterprise”, the case study describes a Taiwan company Hon Chuan Enterprise’s international expansion in emerging markets including mainland China, Southeast Asia and Africa. As an OEM in beverage packaging and filling, the company had been seeking new markets for business transformation – developing its own brands of beverages. Africa became the new battlefield bearing the ambition. In their case study, Dr. Chen and Prof. Chan presented challenges, dilemmas and strategies of the company.

Headquartered in Europe, CEEMAN is a global network of management development institutions interested in the quality of education and innovations in this field. It was the first time that the conference was held in Asia. 133 participants from 31 countries attended the conference.
