Embarking on Excellence: A Vibrant Start to the MScBM Journey Embarking on Excellence: A Vibrant Start to the MScBM Journey

A heartfelt welcome to the newest cohort of Master of Science in Business Management (MScBM) students! The MScBM Class Opening Ceremony took place last Saturday (24th August, 2024) to greet over 100 new entrants.

Dr. Monique WAN, Associate Dean of Business (Taught Postgraduate Studies) and Director of the MBA and MScBM Programmes, set the stage for the ceremony by emphasising the university's motto of “Faith and Perseverance”. She inspired students to embrace this motto throughout their academic journey, encouraging them to build confidence, cultivate lasting friendships, and acquire knowledge that will shape their future. She emphasised that the MScBM experience is not just about obtaining a degree but also about personal growth and readiness to tackle future challenges with integrity and dignity.

Dr. Frederick YIM, Associate Director of the MScBM programme, introduced the programme to the students, highlighting salient features and key components including Executive Development, the MScBM Capstone Project, and the Business Field Study. Students were also apprised of the university's administrative guidelines and the newly launched MScBM Student Ambassador Scheme.

The ceremony showcased inspiring alumni who generously shared their valuable learning experiences with the students. Mr. Zakari ABUBAKARI, an MScBM alumnus of 2023, and Miss Emma ZHOU, an MScBM alumna of 2013, offered practical advice to guide the students on their academic journey. Miss Elise GUO, an alumna of 2013 and the President of the HKBU MScBM Alumni Association, introduced the association's initiatives for fostering close connection with MScBM graduates. Students were also encouraged to participate in the Desert Run Challenge to enhance their university experience. Miss LING Jing, an alumna of 2020, introduced the 14th Asia Pacific Business School Desert Run Challenge and motivated students to join the team to push their limits.

A team-building workshop was a highlight of the event, designed to ignite students' curiosity through immersing them in a simulated business environment. Through this exercise, students engaged actively in identifying issues, proposing innovative solutions, and honing their teamwork skills. The workshop stressed the importance of collaboration and effective team dynamics in a diverse setting.

The class opening ceremony marked the commencement of the students' enriching learning journey at the HKBU.  Students were invited to delve into new knowledge discovery, connect with peers, and embrace diverse perspectives.
