A team of four Year 4 BBA Accounting Concentration students from the HKBU School of Business—Xiuning PAN, Tianze HUANG, Jieyang GAO, and Dongxiao DING—collectively known as “Being Unique”, achieved 4th place at the 5th Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Tertiary Institutes Accounting and Business Knowledge Competition held on 8th November 2024. Under the guidance of their coach, Mr. Anthony CHENG, Lecturer I, Department of Accountancy, Economics and Finance, the team showcased exceptional creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, competing against 19 teams from various tertiary institutes in the first round and ultimately 8 top-tier institutions in the finals.
The finals, attended by nearly 400 experts, scholars, and professionals, comprised four segments: theme presentations, team Q&A, team buzzer round, and risk questions. The segments evaluated contestants' professional knowledge across various domains, such as accounting and business acumen, and current developments of the Mainland China. Additionally, they assessed analytical skills, teamwork, innovative thinking, and decision-making abilities. “Being Unique” demonstrated solid capabilities throughout, earning a respectable position.
To enhance contestants’ understanding of the Greater Bay Area, the organisers arranged visits to key locations in Dongguan. Participants toured the Dongguan Binhaiwan Bay Area Exhibition Centre to learn about the latest developments and innovations, and the Binhaiwan Hong Kong-Macao Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship Base, designed to attract young talents from Hong Kong and Macao to work and start businesses in Dongguan. They also visited the Vivo Headquarters, gaining insights into intelligent manufacturing technologies.
Mr. Bernard WU (BBA Accounting, 1992), an alumnus and Adjunct Professor of the School and Associate Director of the Accounting Professional Committee of the Council for the Promotion of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Cooperation, as well as leader of the Hong Kong regional committee for this competition, praised the event for helping students understand regional developments and prepare for future integration into the Greater Bay Area.
Organised by the Council for the Promotion of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Cooperation and the Guangdong Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the competition aims to highlight the unique strengths of tertiary students from Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao. It encourages students to apply their skills to the Greater Bay Area, fostering a deep understanding and appreciation of the region, and inspiring them to contribute to its growth and development.
