The Centre for Sustainable Development Studies (CSDS) of the HKBU School of Business and the Education Bureau (EDB) have once again joined forces for the second consecutive year to organise the “Economic Infographic Challenge 2023/24”. This innovative initiative gathered 10 standout groups in the final round, where they presented their designs on 6th July, 2024. Dr. Aries WONG, Associate Director of the CSDS, was among the esteemed judges evaluating their work.
CSDS aims to foster a deeper understanding of sustainable development principles in an engaging manner through the Challenge. In preparation for the Challenge, CSDS took proactive steps, including offering recorded lectures on sustainable development, data interpretation and the preparation of infographics.
The Challenge seeks to enhance participants’ understanding of sustainable economic development while also improving their data literacy and their ability to utilise infographics to promote the sustainability issues. It consists of two segments: Challenge 1, an online self-challenge quiz to enhance understanding of sustainable development and data literacy, attracted nearly 3,500 students from 130 schools, showcasing a growing interest in this area among Secondary 4 to Secondary 6 high school students in Hong Kong. The second segment, Challenge 2, is an Economic Infographics Design and Presentation Competition. It attracted around 90 groups from nearly 50 schools, who poured their creativity into crafting infographics. Both segments provided a platform to demonstrate the participants’ adeptness in economic theories and data analysis.
The champion hailed from TWGHs Kap Yan Directors' College, impressing the judges with their project titled "Key to Green Economy." Each team brought a unique perspective and innovative approach to the competition, contributing to the vibrant discourse on sustainable economic development and creative expression. The full list of awardees is available on the Economic Infographic Challenge website.
The CSDS aims to conduct research and organise knowledge transfer activities related to the achievement of the United Nations’ (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It focuses on how institutions, policies and practices affect the achievement of selected SDGs in global and local contexts. The CSDS also facilitates the organisation of educational activities related to sustainable development in collaboration with community partners. Visit the CSDS website for more details.
