The HKBU School of Business launched its Business Mentorship Programme with a Kick-off Ceremony at the Eaton Hotel on 20th November 2024. This event marked the beginning of a inaugural journey aimed at connecting esteemed business mentors with the School’s students, fostering a strong business community, and creating a positive impact on the School.
The ceremony commenced with inspiring welcome remarks from Prof. Yuk-shing CHENG, Interim Dean of the School of Business. Prof. CHENG expressed gratitude to the mentors for their valuable time and expertise, emphasising the opportunities they create for students. He extended special thanks to Mr. Kevin LIEM, Treasurer of HKBU Council, and School of Business Advisory Committee members, including Prof. Justin CHIU (DBA 2021), alumnus and Adjunct Professor of the School, as well as Member of Executive Committee and Executive Director at CK Asset Holdings Limited; Prof. Stan HO, Chief Representative at Syntao Green Finance International Limited; Ms. Janis TAM, Vice Chairman of The Hong Kong Retail Management Association; and Ms. Jennifer TAN, Executive Vice President of Strategy Development and Government Affairs, GBA at Ant Group, for their efforts in bringing exceptional mentors into our mentorship programme.
Prof. CHENG stressed that success requires more than just technical skills, which is why this Mentorship Programme is essential. “Our mentors come from diverse fields—retail, consulting, Web3—and bring a wealth of experience. Engage with them to grow both professionally and personally,” he encouraged. “It's where theory meets practice, traditional wisdom meets innovation, and individual growth meets shared success.” The event included a delightful dinner and an engaging quiz, allowing students and mentors to connect.
Leading up to the Kick-off Ceremony, two activities were organised to equip mentors for the programme. On 21st and 22nd October 2024, two Meet & Greet Lunch were organised exclusively for the mentors and School of Business’s staff, including Mr. Ryan MAN, Associate Dean (Undergraduate Studies), and Dr. Lucia FUNG, Associate Director (BBA (Hons)). This event provided an opportunity for mentors to connect, share their visions, and strengthen relationships with the School's leadership. A dynamic Preparatory Workshop and Orientation for the mentees took place on 12th November 2024, where career coach Ms. Natalie EVIE provided insights on fostering meaningful and lasting mentorships.
The Business Mentorship Programme, spanning from November 2024 to late September 2025, pairs each mentor with two to three meticulously selected mentees. The core aim is to promote personal and professional growth, expand knowledge, and foster essential networking opportunities with distinguished mentors. The programme enriches students’ educational experience and cultivates future business leaders ready to make a meaningful impact on society.
