The HKBU School of Business recently concluded a vibrant four-day study tour to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, held from 2nd to 5th July, 2025. Organised by the School’s Mainland and Global Engagement Section, the programme offered Taught Postgraduate (TPg) students a rich combination of cultural experiences, academic exchanges, and professional networking opportunities to broaden their global outlook.

Led by Prof. Monique Shui-ki WAN, Associate Dean (Taught Postgraduate Studies) and Director of the MBA and MScBM Programmes, the tour offered students direct insight into Southeast Asia’s dynamic economy while promoting cross-cultural understanding and professional growth—reinforcing the School’s commitment to global learning and collaboration. During the tour, Prof. WAN also met with representatives from several Malaysian institutions, strengthening ties between the School and potential partners across the region.

The tour featured corporate visits to prominent Malaysian enterprises, including CGS International Securities Malaysia, where Assistant Vice President (Sustainability) Ms. Yvonne ONG shared insights into the regional financial sector and sustainable business practices. The group also took part in an exclusive office tour to see how a major financial firm runs day to day. At the Royal Selangor Visitor Centre, students observed the pewter-making process firsthand and gained insights into the brand’s legacy and luxury branding strategies.

Another highlight of the tour was the visit to UTAR (Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman), where students and faculty fostered meaningful discussions on business education and global trends. Prof. WAN presented HKBU’s educational philosophy, prompting lively exchanges, while a student representative from the MSc in Entrepreneurship and Global Marketing programme shared her experiences, encouraging cross-cultural dialogue and connection.

Complementing these professional engagements, participants engaged with Kuala Lumpur’s rich cultural landscape. Through guided city excursions and shared meals, they explored major landmarks, sampled local cuisine, and developed a deeper appreciation for Malaysia’s multicultural identity. The tour demonstrated the School’s approach to developing globally competent business professionals through practical exposure.
