Employer Connection

Non-local students pursuing full-time undergraduate and postgraduate programs at locally-accredited institutions are granted a "No Objection Letter" (NOL) by the Immigration Department upon approval of their entry applications. This NOL allows them to engage in part-time work on campus, curriculum-related internships, or summer jobs.

Starting from 1 November 2023, there will be a temporary exemption for full-time non-local students from the restrictions on part-time employment. This initiative, led by the Labour and Welfare Bureau, will be implemented on a trial basis for a duration of two years.

Non-local fresh graduates who submit their applications to the Immigration Department within six months of their graduation date may be eligible for a 24-month stay on a time limitation without any additional conditions of stay, as long as they meet the standard immigration requirements.

Statutory Minimum Wage Ordinance

Continuous Contract of Employment

Under the existing requirement, regardless of whether they are working full-time or part-time, employees employed by the same employer for four weeks or more, and having worked for 18 hours or more per week, are regarded as being engaged under a "continuous contract".

The relaxed requirement will involve using the aggregate hours worked over four weeks as a counting unit and setting the four-week threshold at 68 hours worked.
